Is there a live map of balloons from Belarus?

No public feed follows each smuggling balloon, because the balloons carry no transponder anyone can read. What can be mapped is the wind they ride. AirVeto draws it live at 8 heights, from 80 m to 7.2 km, marks in orange the stretches of border where that wind is blowing into the EU, and pins every reported balloon landing with its sources.

How does a balloon radar work for smuggling balloons?

Radar that watches the border belongs to the state: border guards and the armed forces. AirVeto is the open layer beside it. It shows the wind before and during a balloon night, and after each reported crossing it reconstructs what the wind was doing, from public sources anyone can check.

Why does the wind decide where a smuggling balloon lands?

A smuggling balloon has no engine. Once released it drifts with the wind at the height where it floats, usually well above the ground, so the surface wind can point the wrong way. That is why AirVeto shows several heights and why its reconstructions name the height they read. The method and its limits are in the methodology.

When is the wind blowing from Belarus tonight?

The live map turns a border segment orange when the wind there is crossing into the EU, within 85 degrees of straight across the border. Watch those segments on the night you care about. Pro adds a 3-day forecast, so the same check works ahead of time. The wind is a model forecast (Open-Meteo, ICON-EU), not a measurement.

Where have balloons landed?

AirVeto's archive holds 19 balloon incidents since November 2025, in Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and the Kaliningrad region. The five most recent:

Places hit again and again have their own pages: Vilnius Airport and the Polish-Belarusian border. In Lithuanian: kontrabandos balionai; in Polish: balony przemytnicze. For agencies, see border monitoring; for balloon teams, balloon operators.

Questions.

Is this an official alert service?

No. Official warnings come from national authorities: border guards, the armed forces and the airport. AirVeto is analysis: the wind and the record of what was reported.

Can I use it for hot-air balloon flights?

Yes, for planning. AirVeto doesn’t follow a balloon in flight, but the wind at 8 heights shows where a balloon will drift, and Pro adds the 3-day forecast. Operators and teams: see AirVeto for balloon operators.

Which borders does it cover?

Belarus with Lithuania, Poland and Latvia, and the Kaliningrad region. The wind map itself runs from Finland to Romania.

Is it free?

The live map is free with an account. Pro adds the 3-day wind forecast.
